Australian Geographic (AG) recently featured “Ten of the best Australian mountains to climb”. The list includes mountains with spectacular vistas that are worthy to be added to your mountains-to-climb list. Some of these mountains may not be the highest in the world but they offer superb perspectives over our World Heritage-listed sites and other exquisite natural landscapes David Robinson Jersey , reported AG. The mountains that made it to the list are:

1. Wollumbin-Mt Warning, NSW
2. Mt Gower, NSW
3. Mt Kosciuszko, NSW
4. Mt Feathertop, Vic
5. Mt Barney, Qld
6. Walshs Pyramid, Qld
7. Mt Ngungun, Qld
8. Cradle Mountain, Tas
9. Bishop and Clerk, Tas
10. St Mary Peak, SA

Australians, fond of the outdoors and bushwalking, are ready to take on this adventure through to the summit of these mountains. They don’t back out of mountain climbing challenges, even if the endeavour is climbing to the peak of Mt Everest – an achievement for Tim Macartney-Snape and Greg Mortimer, the first Australians who successfully reached the summit of the world’s highest peak in 1984. Together with them in this Australian Everest Expedition was mountaineer Lincoln Hall, who was short of a few hundred metres to the top in this first attempt but went back to finally reach Mt Everest’s summit in 2006. This successful 2006 climb, however, became famous because of his survival story: he lost consciousness on his way down, disoriented and without food and oxygen, at an altitude of above 8000m. This AG Lifetime of Adventure Award recipient, founding director of Australian Himalayan Foundation, and writer-author cheated death on the sub-freezing Everest peak but didn’t survive his battle with mesothelioma. He passed away on March 20th.

Tenth seed Rafael Nadal of Spain in action in his men's singles first-round match against Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil at Wimbledon on Tuesday. Photo: CFP

Rafael Nadal might have been condemned to a lowly 10th seeding at Wimbledon but he remains a floater everyone will want to avoid after getting his campaign off to an impressive start with a straight-set dismissal of Thomaz Bellucci on Tuesday.

The twice champion, who has slipped down the sport's pecking order after 18 months of injury and below-par performances, showed glimpses of his power and determination in a 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 win over Brazil's Bellucci on a sun-drenched Number One Court.

If the draw goes to plan Nadal will have to get past Andy Murray and Roger Federer to earn a shot at a third title, -potentially against top seed Novak Djokovic in the final.

Through his eight-year career Bellucci had played 306 matches, exactly split between victories and defeats, but it has always been one-way traffic against Nadal. The two had met five times previously and the nearest the Brazilian came to taking a set was when he forced a tiebreak - which he lost to love - during his first-round defeat at Wimbledon three years ago.

Nadal had warmed up for this year's tournament by winning on the grass of Stuttgart, though he went out in the first round at Queens.

Bellucci has been allergic to grass for four years, failing to win a single match on the surface since 2011. The match reached its natural -conclusion in just over two hours, the ideal preparation for Nadal as he -attempts to nurse his battered 29-year-old body through two grueling weeks.

Also on Tuesday, Roger Federer -began his 63rd consecutive Grand Slam tournament with a majestic 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 first-round win over little-known Bosnian Damir Dzumhury. The Swiss second seed's pursuit of a record eighth title at the All-England Club could not have started more convincingly as he broke the Wimbledon debutant five times to draw rapturous applause from the Federer faithfuls who had flocked to see their hero on Center Court.

Petra Kvitova began her Wimbledon defense as she left off in last year's final with a brutal exhibition of power tennis, dismantling Dutchwoman Kiki Bertens 6-1, 6-0 in a 35-minute rout on Tuesday.
