LONDON Patrick Cutrone Jersey , Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- A masked Islamic State (IS) fighter, known as "Jihadi John" and pictured in videos showing beheadings of western hostages, has been identified as Mohammed Emwazi from London, local media reported Thursday.
Emwazi is a Kuwaiti-born Briton from west London. He has been featured in a number of videos released by the IS showing the beheadings of U.S., British and Japanese journalists and aid workers, according to a BBC report.
The IS fighter, who speaks with a British accent, has long been suspected of being from Britain since he appeared in IS videos last year.
The man was already known to British security services, but they chose not to reveal his name earlier for "operational reasons."
